From the Val di Sole to the Val di Genova: The Tonale Pass to the Bedole Refuge crossing

Route and description: This amazing route passes close by to the Gruppo Presena and Adamello glaciers. The excursion is organized by the Adamello Brenta Nature Park and it starts from the Tonale Pass and crosses over to the Valle di Genova along the shores of Lake Monticello up to the Maroccaro Pass, Lake Scuro and Lake Mandrone, the Città di Trento Refuge at Mandrone and from here the descent to the Bedole Refuge in Val di Genova. Total walking time: 4 hrs c. the excursion crosses glaciers and snow clad paths, therefore it is advisable to dress accordingly. Ice crampons will be supplied if necessary.

From Molveno to Spiazzo Rendena by one’s own car or by group taxi. Meeting point: Pro Loco di Spiazzo office  ( a free car park is near by).  At 6,30 am the coach leaves for the Tonale Pass ( arrival at 9.00 am) and from here a cabin lift to the Paradise Pass and the beginning of the excursion which leads from north to south as far as the Mandrone Refuge passing via Lake Monticello. Path 209 climbs the Vedretta della Presena as far as the Capanna Presena and the Maroccaro Pass which is the highest point of the excursion ( 2980 m.)

Then downhill in a south western direction between the Cime Payer to the west and the Cime Presena  and the Cime Zigolon to the east. The gradual descent arrives on the eastern side of Lake Scuro ( 2660 m.) and from here a 20 min. walk to the Mandrone Refuge. The refuge offers a breathtakingly beautiful view onto the Lobbie and the Val di Genova

The route proceeds eastwards across rocks and grassy glades and shortly arrives at the Julius Player Glacialogical Centre. From here an exacting descent, ( 90 hairpin bends), to the Bedole Refuge in Val Genova and then onto the homonymous Malga Bedole. From here by bus to Spiazzo Rendena.
